shaft tail bearing, pinion shaft tail bearing cup and pinion nut must be installed. The special tool should be rotated at 60 rpm (1x revolution per second) to produce a consistent reading. The pinion shaft should be rotated through two full revolutions by hand before the torque measurement is performed. Using the special tool, check the torque required to rotate the pinion shaft. The specified ...

On the left side is a setup tool that sits in the bearing cup and simulates the pinion level down to the thouh, this is used mainly to validate the setup. The unit on the right sits on a magnet with a small pin which aligns it on the pinion, the small block is used to get the exact level relative to a set point on the case in the lowest point of the output flange opening. When everything ...

After the backlash and pinion depth are set I remove the carrier and set the final pinion bearing preload. 6 Installation Kit Instructions Assembly (continued) Ideal pattern Used drive pattern. Setting Pinion Bearing Preload In differentials that use a crush sleeve this is relatively easy. I always use a new crush sleeve for final assembly. I use oil on the pinion nut washer surface during all ...

 · The spec is for the pinion bearing preload, meaning how much drag there is on the pinion bearings. After tightening the pinion nut a bit, you have to turn the entire pinion gear with a socket over the pinion nut while you closely watch how much the maximum prevailing toque is registered on the dial of an inch/lbs torque wrench. The nut needs to be tightened a little at a time, with frequent ...

Installing a tight bearing on a shaft

Installing a tight bearing on a shaft

 · We install "tight fit" bearings regularily at the train repair yard. We do alot of tight fit installs that are not bearings as well. We do not freeze the shafts nor heat the bearings at all, although we do heat a stop plate prior to installation on the axle bearing install, but not the bearing itself.

 · I recently installed a set of 's and had no access to a press. I just used a long punch and a 16 oz hammer. If you are careful and patient and alternate sides for each impact the bearing will slowly slide down the pinion. Make sure the bearing bottoms out.

Nitro Installation Guide

Nitro Installation Guide

Pinion Bearing Preload Is the amount of rolling resistance on the pinion bearings. This is adjusted by adding or subtracting shims loed between pinion bearings (more shim = less preload) alternatively set by tightening nut with a crush sleeve in place, collapsing it until desired preload is achieved.

Install bearing on axle shaft. Install rear brake assembly with bearing case onto axle. Install inner bearing on axle. Install NEW retainer ring. Do not exceed 22,046 lbs. (100,00 N) when pressing on retainer ring. Install NEW snap ring. 3) Using a feeler gauge, measure clearance between snap ring and NEW retainer ring. Clearance should be less than .007" (.17 mm). If clearance exceeds ...

 · vanguard_anon said: 1) Yes, you do need setup bearings for the pinion. 2) Yes, they should be from the same manufacturer. (I think) I'm not an expert but I had enough of a different with setup bearing from the same manufacturer that I don't plan on using them at all next time. All they did for me was to provide a false goal for me to aim for.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR RING AND PINION SET INSTALLATION

Always install new bearings. 8. Examine the ring gear mounting surface for nicks or burrs which might prevent a flush mounting of the newly installed ring gear. Ring/Pinion tooth depth variations can result from a ring gear that is "cocked" on its mounting surface. If a ring gear spacer is to be used, also check it for surface imperfections. Nicks or burrs can be removed by using block ...

 · He might be talking about a .003 shim in between the bearing and pinion gear itself to raise the pinion depth. And yes, you need to pull the carrier, pull the pinion gear, knock the races out since you're installing a new bearing (races wear with bearing, don't mix and match), press the old bearing out, leave the shim for pinion depth, press the new bearing on and reinstall.

Pinion bearing preload with pinion seal installed ...

 · I know it is recommended to set pinion bearing preload with the pinion seal removed from the housing. From someone who is experienced in this, if the pinion is lubed well, there is VERY little drag felt against the seal, so how big of difference would I see in my torque numbers installing the new seal and setting final pinion preload? Also, I am using new bearings which are supposed to be set ...
