Silicon Carbide
Siliconcarbide is commercially produced from silica sand (quartz) powder and petroleum coke (CPC)/anthracite coal in required proportion in an electric furnace. Heat at the core of such furnace reaches as high as 2600 °C. A yield of ton black silicon carbide is obtained from a furnace charge of 75 ton by this process.
